President Hu Jintao Attends Informal Dinner Hosted by Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda

On the evening of May 6, 2008, Chinese President Hu Jintao attended an informal dinner held in honor of him by Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda. During the dinner, the two leaders had friendly talks on people-to-people friendship and the expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. They agreed that to enhance good-neighborly friendship and deepen cooperation was in the fundamental interests of the two countries and two peoples and was also conducive to peace, stability and prosperity in Asia and the world at large. Fukuda wished the Beijing Olympic Games and the World Expo, due to be held in Shanghai, a great success.

After Fukuda expressed Japanese people's love of giant pandas, Hu said that China understood the aspiration of the Japanese people and noticed the attention paid by Prime Minister Fukuda to the matter. Hu noted that China is to offer a pair of giant pandas to Japan for joint research, for which Fukuda expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the Japanese people.

Member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee (CPCCC) & Director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee Ling Jihua, Member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee (CPCCC) & Director of the Policy Research Office of the CPC Central Committee Wang Huning and State Councilor Dai Bingguo attended the dinner.
